Tours, Sessions, more tours!
Finally back at my LA place. It's great to see my girlfriend and my 2 beautiful dogs that I miss so much while working.
I just arrived home from a three week tour with the amazing John Scofield and Mavis Staples. Pretty much one of the most enjoyable bands I have played with. This band encompasses every style of music that I love to play. Sco has been my one of my favorite guitar players since college, and Mavis is a legendary gospel soul singer who's voice can be heard on many soul/gospel classics. To make things more interesting, on the days off, I managed to fly back to NYC and be a part of a few very fun sessions.
First I recorded with the amazing K.J Denhert produced by Bennet Paster at Ben Wisch's west village studio. Second I played on a track for gospel artist Jeff Roberson produced by Ken Wallace at Ian London Productions in Islip. The Scofield Band then hit the west coast for 5 more dates. After our west coast run, I had an additional three days off so I flew back to NYC and worked on Craig Wilson's new project produced by Jo Davidson. Craig is a great up and coming singer/songwriter co-writing with Jo Davidson and producing some beautiful songs. We had a great time at Sugar Box Studios in lower midtown manhattan laying down everything from light brush grooves to rocking Coldplay-ish pockets. After Craig's session I ran uptown to 86th Street to play on a pop track for producer Rami Yadid, whom I love working with. Then back out on tour with Sco and Mavis to Providence for an awesome last gig of the tour. Every once in a while schedule's fall into place just right, and you're able to fit everything in. Although somewhat exhausting, I'm truly blessed to have been a part of all this great music.
In two days I go out for another 3 weeks with The Manhattan Transfer on yet another European tour. We'll be filming another live DVD on this tour with The BBC Big Band.
For my European friends, if we're coming to a city near you please get in touch!
Happy Holidays everyone!
