FEBRUARY NEWS

Greetings!

I just arrived back from the Panama Jazz Festival in Panama City, where I played with The Janis Siegel Group opposite Jack Dejohnette for 2 concerts and one workshop.
Jack, Max Roach and Roy Haynes are the few legendary drummers that are a part of American music history. Being that jazz is America’s only true original art form, and the drum kit is the only musical instrument specifically invented to play jazz, these men are cultural music icons. I was lucky enough on this trip to play great music with Janis, Alan Pasqua and Darek Oles, get to know many great local musicians in Panama, and befriend and listen to Jack play. It was a great experience. After listening to him for so many years, I got a completely different perspective by sitting backstage right behind his kit.

While I was in Panama, my original music debuted on prime time national television. Hassbeat Productions was hired to compose 3 world music percussion pieces for the Fox television series Jonny Zero. I also made a cameo appearance in the episode playing solo drums in sequence to fight scene. It was a fun time.

This month, I’ll be in NYC for the first couple weeks and then I hit the west coast with The Manhattan Transfer. Locally I’ll be playing with Organic, Moxie, Greg Ryan and Karen Jacobsen. I will also be in rehearsals for a new East Village Opera Company recording. I’ll keep you posted on that.

Happy Valentines Day!
Steve
