February 2003 Update

Hey folks!

There's so much going on this month I don't know where to begin!

First, I'd like to thank all the great people I met and hung out with at this year's Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, CA. The Innovation Drum company has truly taken drum making to a new unmatched level. Any drummer will be doing themselves a favor if they just take a second and check out these drums.

On the recording front this month there's big news. I'm recording my first solo project, tentatively called, "
Sounds From NYC". An eclectic collection of some of my favorite songs. When people ask me "what kind of music?", I just say, "...good music." I'm not one to get caught up in styles. What's the style? Well I guess it's my style. :-)

The CD will also feature some of NYCs finest musicians including The Manhattan Transfer's Janis Siegal, Ravi Coltrane, James Genus, Ben Butler and many many more. I have a feeling I will sell out of the first batch fairly quickly, so it might be a good idea to pre-order a copy. The release date is set for June 1st.

Check out the MP3 section where I also have a live cut from a recent Hugh Wilson gig at NYC's The Cutting Room as well as a track from Dana Mase's new CD.

Steve with Miss Universe 2002, Justine Pasek.

On the gig side this month involves a bit of travelling. I'll be in Korea playing with Lee Oskar from Feb 11th to Feb 17th, and then I'm doing a short Italian tour with The Manhattan Transfer from Feb 21st-March 1st. I'm sure there will be the occasional NYC club gig in between tours. Check my gig page for the latest.

In other news, I had the great pleasure of meeting Justine Pasek Miss Universe 2002 at Eddie Kramers' party at the ARIA photo gallery in SOHO. For those of you who aren't familiar Eddie's amazing rock and roll photos please visit http://www.ariaphotos.com and get blown away by some of the great images this legendary Rock and Roll producer/engineer has brought us. Anyhow, back to Justine. the television program EXTRA! (NBC) is doing a short segment on a night out with Miss Universe. Fortunately that night out features her coming to see me play at NYC's Zinc Bar! If you get a chance, check it out. Check your local listings.

Have a great February!!

Peace,
HASSY
